Pet Vet on WLAP

Be sure to listen to my radio show on News Radio 630 WLAP every Saturday morning at 11am. I get to talk about topical news that relates to our pets, answer questions about issues your dog or cat may be facing, our adoptions that we have available at the clinic and even have special guests from time to time.

Be sure to tune in and if you have a topic or question call the show at 280-2287 during the show.

It lots of fun and informative.

Hey Doc,

I love the show! You have a lot of folks calling, so I'm asking you here. My question is about my cat (M-Neutered-indoors. In the last 2 months, he is rubbing his jaw and chin everywhere and has become very vocal. This seems to happen at this time every year.

I look forward to the answer...

Max, sorry to take so lnog getting back to you. I have been remiss in keeping up with the blog but will improve this with my "new May resoulution" of reviewing the blog daily.
What is going on with your neutered male is a sexually driven activity. It is certainly less than it would be if he was still intact (not castrated). The pituitary gland (master gland) still releases hormones that create some of the behavior that you are seeing. Because the queens still come in season in the spring and he knows that you are still getting some of the male sexual behavior. Let's hope spraying does not become a part of it.
